How to win the lottery
Well, almost… The odds of winning the lottery Jackpot are fixed – no one can change them. What we can affect is the likely amount that you can win – the
Financial Odds. What are Financial Odds?
Imagine gambling on a pack of cards – where you pay £1 and if you choose the winning card, you win £25. The house can expect to take £52 for every £25 paid out, which would be very profitable for them. But if there's a table next door offering £50 for picking the winning card, wouldn't you go next door? There are the same odds of winning – but better Financial Odds.
Of course, with lotteries there's another aspect to consider – what if someone else picks the same card? Suddenly you have to share your £50 with someone else.
There are two golden rules to maximise your Financial Odds:
- Play when the lottery offers higher than normal Financial Odds. As the numerical odds of winning don't change, a bigger Jackpot prize fund means better Financial Odds.
- Don't share your Jackpot! Chose numbers that are least likely to be picked by others and, if you win, keep it all to yourself.
We show you how to maximise these rules, and why they work, below.
